Klein High takes on Katy Taylor Mustangs Friday at Rhodes Stadium
By Ken Rideout
After posting an strong 41-12 win on the road against the Aldine Mustangs in their season opener ,the Bearkats take on another group of Mustangs from Katy Taylor this Friday, 7pm, at Katy's Rhodes Stadium.
Coach Hallmark got off to a good start in his coaching debut with the Kats. The new offensive scheme and the new 3-4 defense worked to dominate the outmanned Aldine team. On a hot August night with a early lead, Coach Hallmark played most of the roster, rotating players the entire game.
Veteran safety Eric Rowe took the opening kick- off 89 yards for a touchdown and the Bearkats out played Aldine the rest of the way with a strong effort from quarterback Michael Edel, running back Keshawn Hill and an impressive offensive line blocking performance.
The defense, led by junior Ben Weaver, also played well, shutting down the Aldine attack and did not give up a score all night. Aldine scored both touchdowns on special team plays, a long kickoff return for a score and a blocked punt for a score. Look for the Bearkats to shore up the kicking game this week.
Earlier in the week, Klein's Freshman and JV teams also played well and all 4 teams posted wins against Aldine. The Klein Freshman teams play at Katy Taylor High School this Thursday at 4:30 and 6:30 pm. The Klein JVÂ teams play Wednesday at Klein Auxillary field at 4:30 and 6:30 pm.
Klein High looks to follow up the Aldine win with a strong effort against Katy Taylor. Taylor lost a close game last week to Cypress Fairbanks High 20-21. Katy Taylor made a deep playoff run last year and has playoff aspirations again this year playing in the 17-5A district.
Be sure to wear your Klein Blue Spirit attire this week as the "Blue Out" goes on the road to Katy this week.
